I was sent an eoi for an end of year exhib by an artist friend I met through insta. ‘capture’ really did capture my mind, and I applied to be apart of the show right away. I was met by the very enthusiastic soul who reached back out from the ari (artist run initiative).
around 20 photographers were hand picked by the very skilful director, Sam H, who I am lucky to now call a friend. I didn’t even know that this many people shot film in this little old town. it was a very pleasant surprise.
I didn’t have any works up for sale as I did not want to have that kind of expectation looming above me, like I did in my second show (the joint one). I’ve also had a bit of a frantic period since coming back from iceland/norway and working on my debut book.
both shows had different expectations/outcomes attached anyway, there’s no use in comparing them. not that this was the aim of this journal post. just a place for me to debrief and perhaps look back on one day. I don’t think things should be measured by $$, it’s always been about the feeling
the most important things were achieved: I got to see some of my most loved people, met some lovely new film photographers and people whom I’d been following online for quite some time. so all in all, great success.
can’t wait for more group shows like this in the future.

art by Kym R, a person I have followed for quite some time. I am a big fan of her practice and her method of documenting and baring the lessons learned along the way. (too much gatekeeping is done in the film world!).
